Hi Everyone,
I would like to start out by thanking everyone for the donations for our
adopted family, as well as for purchasing the Christmas party tickets.
The single mom with 3 of her own children and 2 adopted foster children
each received a $100 gift card from a mall close to them. They also received a $500 gift card
for food and a $175 gift card to get a window fixed in their house.
After that we had $1240 left over.
We had such a huge response from you that we
needed to find someone else to help.
There is a shelter called Avenue
15 which is for homeless and run away children ages 12-17. They
have enough room for 25 kids on a full time, long-term basis. They also
have room for 18 kids that can stay one evening or up to 2 months.
This shelter helps kids transition from being on the street to a
program to get them off the street. If they want help and are ready to
use the help to get their lives straightened out, the help is there for
them to access.
The shelter had huge cutbacks this year due to the
recession and child welfare is putting their financial focus on smaller
children. The extra donations from you were graciously accepted to help with their shortfall
this year.
During the -30 weather the kids
that went to the shelter on a day to day basis could not have warm safe
shelter until 10pm and were fed and kicked out at 7 am. The shelter would
give them Macdonald's gift certificate for coffee, etc to help them stay warm.
They are always looking for donations to help these kids.
They gave me a
tour and an explanation of what they do for these kids and I said I
would help promote the work that they do. If you would like to help out please either contact me or them
directly. Avenue 15 is still desperately in need but was greatly appreciative of your donation.
Thank you everyone for making
this years party and donations the best ever!!!
Thanks, Charlene.
